Sumit Antil

Sumit Antil is an Indian para-athlete who has left an indelible mark in the world of para-javelin. Born with an unyielding spirit, Sumit's life took an unexpected turn when he was just 17 years old. In a tragic accident in 2015, his motorbike was involved in a collision with a speeding truck, resulting in the amputation of his left leg. Despite this setback, Sumit's determination only grew stronger. During his recovery, he was introduced to para-athletics by fellow athlete Rajkumar, who encouraged him to pursue his passion for sports. As Sumit continued to work towards his goal, he began competing in the javelin event on the national circuit. His talent and dedication soon caught the attention of GoSports, which inducted him into the Para Champions Programme in 2019. This marked the beginning of an illustrious career for Sumit, with a record-breaking performance at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy in the same year. Since then, he has become a six-time world record holder in the para-javelin event, with his most notable achievement being a throw of 73.29 meters at the Asian Para Games 2022. Sumit's triumphs continued with a gold medal win at the Paris Paralympics 2024, cementing his status as one of the most accomplished para-athletes in the world.
