About the Artist

Born in 1981, Dhruv Sangari, also known as Bilal Chishty Sangari, is a versatile artist with expertise in Sufi and Classical Indian music. As the son of esteemed scholar Kumkum Sangari and acclaimed painter Mahendra 'Manu' Sangari, Dhruv's artistic inclinations were nurtured from a young age. His musical journey began at the age of seven, with training in Hindustani classical music under the guidance of Shahana Bannerjee, followed by mentorship from Ustad Iqbal Ahmad Khan. Additionally, he honed his skills in tabla with Pandit B.S. Ramanna. Dhruv's fascination with Sufism and Sufi music led him to learn qawwali from Ustad Meraj Ahmed Nizami at the revered dargah of Nizamuddin Auliya in Delhi, a hub of the Qawwal-Bachhe Gharana tradition. His contributions to Sufi-Bhakti music have earned him recognition and awards from prestigious institutions, including the Rotary Club, Amir Khusro Foundation, Smithsonian Institution, and the University of Baroda.
